Refiners have been pushed to lower the sulphur content of fuels as a result of increasingly strict fuel emission laws. By lowering the concentration of polar molecules (sulphur, oxygen, and nitrogen) and polycyclic hydrocarbons, the usual technique to desulfurize fuel also decreases the fuel’s intrinsic lubricity. Failure of the injection pump will result from a lack of lubrication brought on by lower sulphur levels in diesel fuel.
