Sucralose is a non-nutritive artificial sweetener. It’s widely used because it’s intensely sweet but contains almost no calories.  Sucralose binds to sweet taste receptors on the tongue, like sugar does. Unlike sugar, it is not metabolized for energy, so it passes through the body mostly unchanged.
